As trees are planted and action is taken to improve the climate, care is needed to ensure biodiversity is maintained. Planting a forest of all the same trees, leaves the forest vulnerable to pests and infection that could wipe the forest out in one season. Ensuring a forest has a range of trees that are native to the region, helps mitigate the risks of pests and infection.
Dr Will Pearse of Imperial College London's Grantham Institute - Climate Change and the Environment, said only by treating climate, biodiversity, and human society as coupled systems can we address "the current catastrophes".
