Eight Ounces of Newly Developed Powder Removes as Much CO2 from the Air as a Tree

Researchers at UC Berkeley have developed a powder called COF-999 that can capture as much CO2 as a mature tree with just eight ounces. Composed of highly porous, durable materials, it traps CO2 efficiently and can be reused after heating. COF-999 is a promising tool for carbon capture and could potentially help reduce atmospheric CO2 if deployed effectively. It’s being prepared for commercialization within the next two years, though challenges remain in how to position the powder in open air to not have it blow away in wind.
