Disability Pride Month: Raise Awareness

As I continue my sight loss journey, I have come to realise the importance of being comfortable with calling myself disabled. You may recall my article The challenges of identifying as disabled.

July is Disability Pride Month dedicated to raising awareness of disabilities and promote inclusiveness. I will confess to only hearing about it a week or two ago, but it all started back in 1990. Samantha Ranke published Never heard of Disability Pride Month? Let’s talk about why in the Metro which explores why many of use haven't heard of it.

Thanks to the rising awareness of disabilities, i am not ashamed to be disabled.

Now you have heard of Disability Pride Month, it's time to share and educate others.

Build Back More Inclusive, Build Back Ever Better

Associated with self-esteem, pride and confidence, Disability Pride Month is a month of enjoyment, education and activism to highlight that the disabled community should not be ‘other-ed’ or left behind.
