New App "All Aboard" Helps Visually Impaired Find Bus Stops

A new app has launched to help visually impaired and blind travellers find bus stops exactly. GPS works excellent for getting to the general areas of a bus stop, but it's the last ten metres that are often the diffierence between a bus driver seeing and stopping for you and the just driving right past.

This app uses AI trained with over five thousand images of bus stops to help navigate the last few metres. The video demonstrats how this works in practice. Continued development in assistive technology empowers disaed people to be more independent.

Think of the last time you used a mobile map app to find bus stop during your travel. Once you arrived at the destination, you could see the sign to pinpoint exactly where to stand for the bus to pull over. However people who have impaired vision lack this ability. What they often do is wait for their bus right where the mobile app indicates they have “arrived” at their destination.
