I recently read an article about "sustainable sourcing" and how it adds risk and complexity to a company's procurement processes. It covers a lot of ground and you can read the full article here if interested. But what really caught my attention is the point IF YOU'RE ACTIVELY LOOKING for ways to reduce your carbon footprint or to use more sustainable materials, you're already on a "path to progress."

The takeaway for me (even if not the intended takeaway of the article) is that companies have to WANT to make a change for the right reasons. Sure there are potential regulatory requirements they must meet or other industry-driven and customer-driven requirements, but the real change has to start within the company. Quite literally, in the heart and soul of the company -- its people, its leadership, its customers, its stakeholders.

If there's a genuine want to change then companies will find and follow the path to get there, regardless of the complexity. We can all do hard things. It's only a matter of the right motivation.
