My now husband and I had the privilege of visiting Wolf Hollow in Ipswich, MA, a gray wolf sanctuary, a few years back and little did I know that the three hours we spent there would change my entire perception of not only the fragility of wolves but of all species if we do not make it our responsibility to protect them.

These animals were breathtaking and responsive. They were powerful and connected not only with each other but with us. Rolling around on the ground with them, letting them take control and sniff and nudge us until they were confident and in truth praying they would accept us temporarily into their pack with only the leg of a (roadkill) deer as leverage ... we were vulnerable and at their mercy inside their enclosure. We were in their space and we were lucky enough that these enormous wild animals took a chance on us and let us experience something that was so incredibly beautiful and moving. I vowed that day to support gray wolf conservation going forward and yes there is certainly more I could do but if everyone did just a little whether it be a monetary donation or responsible shopping, recycling, reusing, whatever you can do... it all helps this amazing planet we are so lucky to call home and all the creatures that inhabit it.

Wolf Hollow, aka the North American Wolf Foundation, is a 501(c)3 non-profit wolf sanctuary and educational facility proudly staffed primarily by volunteers and supported solely by donations, adoptions, and proceeds from admission and gift shop sales. Since our founding in 1988, our mission has maintained a focus on the preservation of the wolf in the wild through education and exposure.
