Porsche’s synthetic gasoline factory comes online today in Chile

I love these stories where modern engineering is able to manufacture products that historically required consumption of natural resources, or during the manufacturing process or usage of the products emitted gases or byproducts that caused harm.

Now we may get synthetic gasoline that's backed by industrial giants including Porsche, Siemens Energy, Exxon Mobil, Enel Green Power, the Chilean state energy company ENAP, and Empresas Gasco.

Like many great advancements, however, it comes at a price. Hopefully as they roll this out around the world they can start to make it MUCH cheaper because most people cannot afford current gas prices let alone 2X current prices.

The synthetic e-fuel won't be exactly cheap—Steiner thinks at current prices, it works out to around $8 per gallon ($2/L)
