Extract Carbon Dioxide from the oceans to help reduce emissions

Every time I read a story that starts with "Scientists from MIT are working on..." I feel a little better about it. We have some of the smartest scientists, researchers and engineers in the world working every day on challenges that impact our planet.

Great ideas come from everywhere -- not just MIT and other great research universities -- but it's reassuring to know that these organizations have it on their radar to invest time and money and ultimately create new solutions that will help.

Recently, the idea of removing carbon dioxide directly from ocean water has emerged as a promising possibility for mitigating CO2 emissions, with the potential to lead to overall net negative emissions. However, like air capture systems, the concept is still in its early stages and has not yet been widely adopted. Nonetheless, a few companies are exploring this area with the hope of advancing the technology.
