Sustainability sector accelerates efforts to enhance digital skills and unlock AI's potential

The sustainability sector is unlocking new potential by addressing a growing need for digital skills to fully harness AI in tackling environmental challenges. AI offers innovative solutions, from analyzing satellite data to improving fuel efficiency, and equipping professionals with these skills will accelerate progress. A recent survey highlights this opportunity, with many executives focusing on upskilling to meet AI's demands.

Exciting initiatives are already in motion. IBM’s free SkillsBuild platform now includes sustainability-focused courses combining AI and ecological knowledge. Companies are embracing AI by developing tools and fostering critical AI literacy among their teams. Collaborations with universities and nonprofits ensure education aligns with real-world needs, empowering professionals to lead the charge in sustainability. By embracing continuous learning, the sector is poised to drive impactful change and create a brighter, greener future.

Indeed, the World Economic Forum predicts that 44% of workers’ skills will be disrupted by AI between 2023 and 2028 – up nine percentage points from its last five-year projection.
