Making a difference in our community

Mandela Day is an annual global celebration that takes place on the 18th of July to honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela. This day is a call to action for individuals, communities, and organizations to take time to reflect on Mandela's values and principles and to make a positive impact in their own communities. The call to action is as broad and as inclusive as possible – identify those in need around you and do what you can to make a difference with them and for them.

Our Intertek teams arranged a few projects to commemorate this special day. A blood drive was organized with the South African National Blood Service a tent was set up in the office park and our staff were encouraged to donate blood; posters were placed around the office park which also helped to attract staff from the neighbouring companies. In total 27 people donated blood, each donation can save up to 3 lives! We salute each individual for contributing to this life saving initiative.

The second project was a Food and clothing drive, our staff made personal donations, and the company also purchased groceries. The drive lasted 3 weeks and the donations were dropped off on Mandela day. The items were donated to Little Eden, a registered non-profit organization (NPO) that provides life-long care to 300 children and adults with profound intellectual and physical disability.  This is the second time our office in Johannesburg has worked with this NPO and we have seen the amazing work they have done for the community.

The team at Little Eden were beyond grateful for the donation as this will have a significant impact on the dwellers of the home. Our team also took the opportunity to tour the home and spend some time with the kids and adults; this was a heartwarming experience which also enlightened them on the seriousness of intellectual and physical illness in South Africa.
