Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the largest British charities that provide specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer. Since 1990 in the UK, the last Friday in September is Macmillan Coffee Morning Day. Across the country, people gather over coffee to raise funds for the charity.

The Intertek Softlines & Hardlines team in Leigh, UK, joins the movement every year and have raised a significant amount of money for people living with cancer - whilst having some fun in the process! Colleagues were treated to stunning cakes brought in by the team’s own bakers, as well as an exciting contest.

Each year, the team chooses several charities to support and organise activities to raise awareness and funds. This year, in addition to the Macmillan Coffee morning, the team held an Easter Bingo and Raffle, a Grand National sweepstake and a Diwali lunch in support of the Wigan & Leigh Hospice and the Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) charity. The team also works closely with the local charity Compassion in Action, with many team members using their Ever-Better Day to wrap presents for distribution to disadvantaged children and serve meals to struggling veterans.

Taj Parari, Operations Director for Intertek Hardlines and Softlines UK & Eire, said:

“It really is amazing to see the engagement from our teams in Softlines and Hardlines and all the work they put into supporting our community. I’d also like to specifically thank the Softlines & Hardlines Charity and Social Committee, for pouring their heart and soul into organising these events.  They do this as an add-on to their day-to-day roles, and I truly appreciate their hard work and passion to ensure we have events throughout the year to look forward to, which support our chosen charities!

A special thank you to the team who are always happy to assist. The team are always looking at new ideas and activities, so please get in touch with them.”
