A recent study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine examined how short movement breaks during the workday effect well-being and productivity. Researchers followed nearly 11,500 adults who took five-minute walking breaks at different intervals: every 30 minutes, every hour, or every two hours.
The findings showed that taking brief movement breaks did not reduce productivity. In fact, participants reported improvements in engagement, energy levels, mood, and overall work performance. All three break schedules produced positive results, but the researchers found that taking a five-minute movement break once every hour offered the best balance between effectiveness and practicality.
