Why Museums Matter More Than Ever

I've spent hundreds of hours in museums with my children over the years, especially when they were younger. Whether it was a rainy weekend, a school holiday or simply a chance to explore something new together, museums offered endless opportunities to learn, discover and be inspired.

That's why I was interested to read about V&A East, which opened in London earlier this year. What I like about its approach is the idea that museums can be much more than places that preserve the past. They can bring people together, spark creativity and create a sense of community.

It also got me thinking about the role museums play at a time when many families are still feeling the impact of the high cost of living. Museums remain one of the few places where you can spend hours learning, exploring and enjoying a high-quality experience completely free of charge.

We often talk about the value of culture, but perhaps we don't talk enough about access to culture. In a world where so much comes with a high price tag, there is something special about inspiring spaces that are open to everyone.

For me, that's one reason museums remain as important as ever!
