Pakistan's economical giant the city of Karachi experiences heavy unpredicted rainfall

Karachi is one of the biggest cities in the world in terms of population, land, and possessing a striving business economy. If a city like this gets hit by any natural disaster, the whole country faces a collateral damage. Karachi since the start of July 2022, has been facing unpredicted heavy rainfalls and spells. Many businesses have been suspended due to supply chains and logistics being affected along with many ending up being closed.

Pakistan has been predicted for long for being one of the countries that shall be most affected by climate change, and Karachi being a coastal city, events like this are inevitable.

I landed in Karachi on 14th of July for vacation and since my arrival there has been constant pouring with heavy rainfalls all of a sudden during the mid of night pouring around 2-3 inches of rain within a hours.

What I observed, looking at the current infrastructure of the city and the current government actions and initiatives on climate change, we are just not ready for the future and we have no plans of corrective actions. If Pakistan wants to do somethin about it, the government needs to take immediate decisions and being working on clearing out drainage systems and rebuild pipelines and improve the roads infrastructure.

Karachi is considered to be a financial capital of the country with striking malls, high end restaurants, luxury hotels and resorts, high business potential market places, and numerous tourism spots, but is in desperate need of attention by the government.

"Climate change is a threat. We are a coastal city. It's happening so fast and we will bear the brunt," said Afia Salam, a climate change advocate in Karachi. "People need to see the situation beyond individual events like a bridge falling or a road getting flooded."
