I'm sure we all notice more and more electric vehicles (EVs) on the road with the ever rising concern for more ecofriendly options for transportation. The last article I wrote on was about how there has been a surge in popularity for electric motorcycles. However, it's not stopping at electric cars and motorcycles. EVs are also beginning to emerge in the trucking industry. While this technology isn't completely new, it is important to see the value a rise in popularity in electric trucks would bring to everyone's lives.

In the past it was more expensive to use eTrucks in comparison to standard diesel trucks but now in the near term they are both about on par with one another. Other factors that correlate with the rise in popularity include the fact the with new technology and infrastructure this can allow eTrucks to be more cost competitive and with new regulatory concerns for the environment it means a shift has to be made at some point.

Ideally the total cost of ownership (TCO) for owning an eTruck versus a diesel is expected to reach parity by 2030. This isn't too far in the future but there are other concerns that may decided whether eTrucks are a viable option. For instance while the technology is increasing in viability using a common supercharger it would take 8 hours to charge a heavy duty truck which isn't feasible.

The possibility is there for eTrucks to assist on a journey towards an ecofriendly future but it will still take some time and a lot of work.
