Annual Trash Tag Challenge Accepted by U.S. Colleagues

Celebrating Earth Day while team building and enjoying the outdoors

In recognition of Earth Day this year, our North America Green Team set the month long Intertek Annual Trash Challenge.  In the months of April and May, our U.S. colleagues again accepted the Challenge, heading outdoors to local parks and rivers and office and laboratory sites to clean up trash, helping to reduce waste and plastic pollution, improve habitats and biodiversity, prevent harm to wildlife and humans, which can even lead to larger environmental action in our communities.

Colleagues from around the country shared their stories and pictures of their Earth Day activities for others to use as inspiration every day.

Description: The Arlington Heights, Illinois site Assuris team participated in a trash pickup. The team picked up two full trash bags full of litter from around their site!

Description: The Green Team at our Austin, Texas site hosted a trash pickup event to celebrate Earth Day. A total of six participants, smaller than other years due to client events and poor weather, went to a local Academy Sports parking lot, a spot that is known for having a lot of trash, and spent 30 minutes cleaning up litter.

Description: The Cortland, New York site participated in a trash clean up in celebration of Earth Day. They picked up trash in four local parks: Dexter, Beaudry, Suggett and Yaman.

Description: The Deer Park, Texas Green Team took their lunch time to clean up the block around their local site and plant six fruit trees. They dodged a little rain, sweat a bit and got a few ant bites but are proud of their first event of 2023!

Description: The Kentwood, Michigan site hosted a park clean-up with a great group of team members across the Business Assurance, Electrical & Transportation Technologies business lines. The clean-up was held at their local Riverside Park in Grand Rapids, a100-acre park that spans nearly 4 miles along the Grand River. The teams were able to help with trash-pickup, weeding of fruit trees and assisted with removal of an invasive species, Buckthorn, along the river. What a successful event!

Description: For Earth Day, the Orlando, Florida office participated in the Wekiva Island River cleanup. They only found a handful of trash – a win because that means that the river is healthy and clean! The team is looking forward to creating more opportunities for the office to get out and make a difference!

Description: The newly formed Green Team at our Plymouth, Michigan site participated in a clean-up of the tree-lined area around their facility. They picked up 12 pounds of trash! Great job, team!

Description: A team of 31 from our San Antonio, Texas location participated in the Annual Basura Bash City-wide Watershed Clean-up, helping to pull 3 trailer loads of trash out of the Zarzamora Creek.

Description: Tracy Tomes (Accounting Supervisor) and Kayla Shaull (Admin, Field Department) organized a Campus Clean-up Day for our 17-acre site in York, Pennsylvania, collecting large bags of trash in an effort to care for the grounds the site occupies.
