Some days it feels impossible to get just ten minutes for yourself. TEN WHOLE MINUTES! But rest assured, if you can spare this small window of time, you'll be significantly better off for it.
A recent study published in the British Journal of Health Psychology concluded that dedicating 10 minutes per day to “mindfulness” – in this case it was via the use of a free app called Medito – can enhance present-moment awareness and reduce stress.
Set aside ten minutes for yourself. You don't have to travel to Tibet or climb a mountain or fold yourself up into a pretzel. Just get some earbuds or cheap headphones and remain in place where you already are.
Your body and mind will thank you for it.
The study revealed that participants who practiced mindfulness daily experienced significant improvements in their mental health compared to those in the control group. Specifically, the mindfulness group reported higher levels of psychological well-being, as measured by the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale. They also showed a marked reduction in symptoms of depression and anxiety, as assessed by the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale.
