OceanX is a nonprofit (but deep-pocketed) initiative that is deploying cutting-edge technology to explore the deep ocean, an area that remains largely uncharted and a relative mystery even to marine scientists.
Using advanced submarines, surface vessels, underwater drones, helicopters, and even robotic arms, their team is conducting groundbreaking research on a wide variety of marine life, including deep-sea coral reefs, sharks, whales, squid, jellyfish, and other rarely seen creatures that inhabit the ocean’s depths.
The mission involves a high-tech research vessel named the “OceanXplorer” that is equipped with sonar, cameras, and on-board laboratory facilities, allowing scientists to explore deep ocean ecosystems in real time.
The race to uncover what lies in the ocean's depths is gaining momentum, with OceanX leading the way with state-of-the-art technology and innovative exploration techniques.
The deep sea still has plenty of mysteries to reveal. It is the largest habitat on Earth, comprising more than 95 percent of the ocean, yet remains the least explored. At the first ever United Nations Ocean Conference, in 2017, an international coalition of scientists announced its intention of using multibeam sonar to generate a detailed map of the seafloor in its entirety by 2030... When the initiative was first introduced, only 6 percent of the seabed was mapped to an adequate resolution; that figure now is 25 percent mapped in high resolution, with more terrain being added every day.
