The Intertek Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals team in Basel, Switzerland volunteered their time and donned yellow aprons, in support of the charity Thanksgiver Tafel Schweiz. For one afternoon, the team collected surplus food from local supermarkets, set up a pop-up foodbank in a church and distributed food to over 100 people in need.
Thanksgiver Tafel Schweiz (Thanksgiver Table Switzerland) collects surplus food from supermarkets and wholesalers and distributes it to homeless shelters, soup kitchens, emergency shelters and other aid organisations across Switzerland. With the help of local volunteers, the organisation distributes over 6,100 tonnes of food annually, or around 24 tonnes a day.
Simone Hosner, who organised the activity, said:
“As a team, we wanted to give something back to our local community and this proved a very rewarding way to do so. This activity has made all of us more aware of the less fortunate people around us and allowed us to do something good together, while strengthening the sense of community in our team. We are looking forward to doing more in 2025 and beyond.”
