Reading the recent Forbes article, "IT Sustainability: Not Just An Environmental Concern But A Business Need," really resonated with me. In today’s world, embedding sustainability into IT strategy isn’t just about doing the right thing for the planet—it’s essential for business resilience, innovation, and future growth.
Sustainable IT is a catalyst for smarter operations and stronger customer trust. Reducing energy consumption, extending equipment lifecycles, embracing cloud efficiencies, and designing systems with circularity in mind are no longer optional—they are becoming foundational to how competitive organizations operate.
The article’s point that IT departments can no longer be "separate" from sustainability efforts is critical. IT is uniquely positioned to drive measurable change, whether by optimizing data centers, selecting greener vendors, or tracking emissions through better digital reporting tools.
For those of us in leadership roles, the opportunity is clear: sustainable IT is smart IT. It's about building systems that are efficient, adaptable, and aligned with the future we all need to create.
Sustainability must be a business strategy—and IT must be at the heart of it.
According to a recent survey conducted by our company, more than nine in 10 IT leaders (92%) say customers care about a company’s IT/back-office sustainability, not just the sustainability of a company’s products or services. Despite this, 56% of these decision makers believe they are the biggest champions of sustainability in their company. While IT leaders are well-positioned to advocate for sustainable tech, they can’t do it alone.
