China's tourism industry is increasingly adopting sustainable practices, reducing carbon emissions. The government is actively pushing for green development, and businesses are investing in renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power.
The government has sent out clear signals: the tourism industry should respect, adapt to and protect nature, as well as speed up its green and low-carbon development, according to a plan for the industry from 2021 to 2025 released by China’s State Council. It also ranks second in terms of tourism-related emissions, accounting for 15.2% of the worldwide total, behind the U.S. at 19.1%.
