North America’s Largest Wildlife Overpass Opens for Animals to Safely Cross in Colorado

In a powerful example of conservation meeting smart infrastructure, a new wildlife overpass now allows moose, elk, black bears, mountain lions and other animals to safely cross one of Colorado’s busiest highways. This project represents a forward‑thinking effort to protect both wildlife and people while preserving vital natural habitat.

The Greenland Wildlife Overpass spans six lanes of Interstate 25 near Larkspur in Colorado, providing a safe corridor for animals that historically faced dangerous and often fatal crossings of the highway. By reconnecting habitat on both sides of the roadway, the overpass supports animal migrations, enhances genetic diversity, and reduces collisions that can harm drivers and wildlife alike.

This milestone opens a new chapter in how communities coexist with nature. It shows that thoughtful design and investment can protect essential ecosystems while improving road safety. Structures like this are not just bridges made of steel and concrete. They are bridges to a future where human progress and wildlife wellbeing move forward together.
