When Sable, a 100-pound senior mastiff mix, became too exhausted to finish a hike on Pennsylvania's Golden Eagle Trail, six volunteer firefighters came to the rescue.
The Golden Eagle Trail is a 9-mile loop with around 2,300 feet of elevation gain, making it a challenging hike. When Sable suddenly became too tired to walk, her owner hurried down the mountain for help.
He was able to flag down a volunteer firefighter who called for reinforcements to carry Sable four and half hours down the remaining two miles of steep trail in a basket designed for human transport.
Thankfully, Sable was reunited with her owner who reported that she was expected to make a full recovery.
