Do You Really Need 10,000 Steps a Day?

As someone who's been faithfully checking my fitness tracker for more than a decade, I've always had one number in mind: 10,000 steps. But with a full-time desk job, that goal often feels out of reach.

Lately, though, I've been seeing headlines suggesting we've been chasing the wrong number all along. It turns out you may not need 10,000 steps a day to see meaningful health benefits, and for those of us who don't always close our activity rings, that's pretty encouraging.

If you’ve ever felt like 10,000 steps a day is an impossible target, here’s some good news: you probably don’t need that many to improve your health. While walking more is almost always better, research suggests meaningful benefits begin well before you hit five digits.
