Infrastructure Malta has decided to extend the shore-to-ship infrastructure to the Palumbo Yard, enabling vessels to turn off their engines whilst repairs are carried out. Infrastructure Malta started working on the shore-to-ship project in the Grand Harbour, and there are also plans for this to be provided at the Freeport. Through this infrastructure, vessels can now turn off their engines whilst berthed in local ports, thus reducing pollution. Engineer Azzopardi remarked that the change to the system resulted after they had considered appeals from Cottonera residents, adding that this would reduce pollution in the area by about 90%.
