For many years my wife and I walk as a means of exercise- we are consistently able to reach our 10K per day target - with either a very early morning or late evening walk.  I must admit before I was much like everyone else- do our walk, say hi to friends and neighbors and of course on the odd evening stop in to the local pub for a pint.   However since the BBEB effort I do look at things differently and it has changed my way of thinking. During these walks I never once stopped to consider the litter and garbage that we would pass by.  We decided to make a change and a difference as small as it is- we purchased a grabber stick from local hardware store and with a garbage bag in tow we set out on our walks every day now with more of a purpose.  We are routinely stopped by many on the way or receive comments from car windows thanking us for doing what we do.  In our small Port side town (routinely overrun with tourists for beach and wine) we have slowly made a difference- now others can be seen following suit.  We had one person say to us "you will never convince some of these people to change and stop littering" I said perhaps, but you can lead by example and for those that care enough to change the combined effort will make a difference overtime.  I never thought I would add garbage man to my list of accomplishments but it fits well and I am proud to lead the effort.
