Prison inmates help transform a disused warehouse into a public library

Eleven prison inmates have transformed an unused Local Council warehouse in Kalkara into a public library for the locality’s use. The Agency for Corrective Services aid the inmates worked shoulder-to-shoulder with Council employees to create the library, this being part of the Agency’s work to offer inmates work opportunities while undergoing their prison sentence. He said the inmates helped in furniture and plastering, general cleansing and painting as well as work on the placement of doors. This has resulted in a library that will now be used for many years. Kalkara Mayor, Wayne Aquilina, will help create a passion for reading, particularly for children in the locality. A zone has also been created for people to read outside and from an abandoned warehouse this has now become an educational and recreational centre.
