HSBC Group Launch Inclusive and Sustainable Bank Card

HSBC Group have started rolling out a new sustainable and more inclusive bank card. The design is now portrait, vs the traditional landscape layout. HSBC have worked with many charities to ensure the card meets the needs of a broad spectrum of their customer base, from visually impaired to Dyslexia and Alzheimer's.

I have personally received one of these cards, the card has a notch on the bottom edge to help with orientating the card and a dot pressed into the card to help with identifying the top of the card. Being visually impaired, these slight changes make an enormous difference in how accessible the card is.

In addition to the accessibility of the card, it is made from 85% recycled material, cutting 30 tonnes of plastic waste per year.

This is a splendid example of how universal and sustainable design can come together to provide a solution that is for everyone and good for the environment. It's our time to build back ever better.

Banking giant HSBC is replacing all its UK bank cards with a new design that prioritises features to help customers with dementia, sight loss, learning difficulties and dyslexia. Its new cards are also made from 85 per cent recycled plastic, which HSBC says will save 30 *tonnes* of plastic waste per year.
