In the Science of The Total Environment, there is a study on the use of planting willow trees as a means to wastewater treatment. A team of researchers from various universities in Canada and the United Kingdom published their findings entitled Biorefinery potential of sustainable municipal wastewater treatment using fast-growing willow, that investigated a plantation of willow trees in Quebec and found that willow trees were able to not only filter primary wastewater but benefit from its nutrients too.
