In the last few weeks, the Down Syndrome community have had a roller coaster of news and developments. Heidi Crowter has argued that allowing terminations up to birth if the fetus has Down’s syndrome is discriminatory and taken the UK Government to court. Heidi lost the case. This effects more than just the down syndrome community, the entire disabled community struggle with being seen as less of a life than a non-disabled person. In the UK, this culture has a long history with segregation of disabled people being government policy well into the 1900's.

In more positive news, George Webster became the first CBeebies presenter with Down Syndrome, providing representation for an underrepresented proportion of the community and a role model for all children.

It is down to us all to challenge our own biases and views of disability to be able to build back ever better.
