Intertek PSI went to the streets of Portland, Oregon, USA to help with one of many litter cleanup events organized by SOLVE, a non-profit organization that provides resources to communities in every county in Oregon. On September 16, as members of the Swan Island Business Association, our team joined other association members and local business volunteers to pick up trash in an abandoned green space that was once occupied by many homeless people. A total of 28 volunteers worked together to collect 4,300 pounds of trash, which equates to 2.15 tons! Approximately 500 hypodermic needles were also disposed of properly.

SOLVE’s mission is to “bring Oregonians together to improve the environment and build a legacy of stewardship”, focusing on tree planting, invasive removal projects and litter cleanup. They offer the community approximately 35,000 volunteer opportunities every year.

This event was a tremendous success and another example of how together we can make the world a better, more sustainable place.
