After a two-year hiatus, the annual “White Christmas Street Fair” held by Swire Properties returned to Hong Kong earlier this month – and this time it went green.
Tim Blackburn, chief executive of Swire Properties, said ensuring the festivities were environmentally friendly was a top goal.
“This was the first time we’ve worked towards creating a zero-waste event, with the goal of diverting an average of 90 per cent or more of waste from landfills,” he said.
Most of the installations and printed materials were produced with recyclable materials and wood from responsibly managed forests, and were upcycled afterwards. Single-use plastic tableware such as straws and cutlery was nowhere to be found.
