Cybersecurity is an environmental, social and governance issue.

WEF published a paper in March 2022 linking cybersecurity to sustainability.  Great insights from the article include:

  • The most critical intangible asset in determining the value of a company today is data;  cybercrime for economic profit is projected to increase due to this shift in value.
  • Digital transactions across multiple industries are near-ubiquitous; attacks on any of these transactions will impact people.
  • Gaps in cyber insurance coverage will continue to grow; businesses cannot insure their way to digital sustainability
  •  A standardized framework for cyber risk analysis could set a precedent for effective governance.
Those that fail to implement good governance on cybersecurity, using appropriate tools and metrics, will be less resilient and less sustainable.
