"Just don't hurt yourself"

was a cliché my mom would say when I was a kid heading outside to play. It was a warning I rarely heeded as I inevitably came home with cuts, scratches, bruises, etc. They were like souvenirs of a great -- albeit reckless and carefree -- adventure.

Fast forward several decades (and several painful lessons) and I wish I could shout this warning from the mountaintop for all to hear. "Have a great time, everyone... Just don't hurt yourselves."

Today we seem to be on a collision course with more painful lessons.

Let's not wait to find out how bad things COULD get before we step in and stop the madness. By that time it could be too late.

(And don't forget to listen to your mom. She's probably right.)
