First our electronic devices were all plugged in with long power cables that got tangled or looked like a mess. Then we condensed to a wireless charging pad on a desk or table (even integrated with furniture and cars) that you can place your phone on. We need the constant supply of electricity to power our devices and charge our batteries. 

But now there's another option around the proverbial corner, even if still a few years from widespread adoption. This type of wireless charging is over-the-air and charges your devices without cables and without charging pads. A single mounted transmitter sends an infrared signal to your device (which has a receiver built in) that can decode the signal and turn it into energy.
