Hefty brand kicks off new initiative to keep hard-to-recycle plastics out of landfills

Hefty has unveiled an innovative initiative to curb the influx of hard-to-recycle plastics into landfills. Recognizing the environmental challenges posed by these materials, Hefty is encouraging consumers to participate by collecting and recycling items such as plastic packaging, foam containers, and other typically non-recyclable plastics. This effort is facilitated through the use of special collection bags provided by Hefty, which can be filled with these hard-to-recycle items and then sent to participating recycling facilities.

The initiative not only aims to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills but also seeks to educate and engage communities in sustainable practices. By providing a straightforward solution, Hefty hopes to inspire collective action towards a greener future.

The program highlights the company's commitment to environmental stewardship and aligns with broader efforts to promote sustainability. By addressing a significant gap in the recycling process, Hefty is paving the way for more efficient waste management and demonstrating that with the right resources and community involvement, substantial environmental impacts can be achieved. This initiative is a step forward in the ongoing battle against plastic pollution.

Although nearly all plastic is technically recyclable, the actual percentage of plastic that does get recycled in the United States is shamefully low. To combat this problem, trash bag brand Hefty has started a new program that will help over 1.3 million households direct difficult-to-recycle items away from landfills.
