The Intertek Assuris team is on the move, drawing inspiration from last year's successful step challenge by our Food & Nutrition group to bridge the distance between our UK and Canada offices. This ambitious endeavour has now captivated our entire global team. The aim is to collectively walk the circumference of the Earth—40,075 km—by the end of June. Every step counts, whether it's walking, running, swimming, biking, or even playing pickleball. Many team members are also taking part in solo walks, while some walk in groups. We've established an online tracker to monitor our progress, and as of the end of May, over 150 Assurists have joined the challenge, surpassing half of our target.
The spirit of friendly competition is palpable, with each team leader confident in their group's ability to lead the charge. Recent activities include teams from Italy, Germany, and Spain tackling the scenic 4km San Luca walk in Bologna, and the Mississauga team enjoying a neighbourhood stroll of 3000 steps near the office with over 30 staff members and senior leaders. In Shanghai, the team of 20 Assurists explored historic Chinese architecture during a 45-minute walk to the nearby garden, concluding with traditional herbal tea. This competition is fueling motivation and propelling us toward our collective goal.
Samir Ahmed, Managing Director of Assuris, who is also actively participating in this challenge, said:
"Beyond the physical gains, these group walks cultivate a strong sense of unity and well-being. Sharing moments with colleagues while prioritising our health is truly enriching for everyone involved. Witnessing the tally of kilometres walked by individuals and some of our teams actively engaging in group endeavour, fills me with immense pride. As we continue this challenge, the Assuris team remains steadfast and united, prepared to conquer any obstacle—one step at a time."
