Advancing Sustainability and Energy Independence
Bangladesh is making significant strides in the renewable energy sector, positioning itself on the race track toward sustainability and energy independence. By investing in solar, wind, and other renewable sources, the nation aims to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and combat climate change. This shift not only promises environmental benefits but also fosters economic growth and energy security, paving the way for a greener future.
Bangladesh's energy mix is heavily reliant on natural gas, which accounted for about 62 percent of its total energy consumption in FY 2021-2022. Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in solar home systems, with over five million installations serving rural households. Despite this, renewables contribute only around three percent to the national grid as of 2023.
