Mattel is aiming to have 90% of its games accessible to colour blind players by the end of 2025, reaching up to 300 million people who would have been excluded previously.
This is very welcome news, as I can no longer tell the difference between green and blue Uno cards. I have been able to find Uno with Braille embossed to allow me to play, but only with my special version of the game. Mattel will add symbols to Uno cards making them accessible to colour blind players without special versions of the product being needed.
These small changes make no production cost differences but make an enormous difference to players globally being able to play along. I hope to see more companies and especially new products follow Mattel's example and make products accessible as default.
Mattel is making its colorful card games, like Uno, accessible to players with color blindness. The toymaker announced this week that 80% of its global games portfolio will be color-blind accessible by the end of the year, a figure it says will reach 90% by the end of 2025.
