A new app recently released for the Apple Vision Pro let's you control real world smart devices directly from your headset.
The app is called “Air Orbe” and it allows users to simply look at their smart devices, such as lights, and control them via augmented reality menus. The devices will show a “virtual marker” while you're wearing the glasses, which lets you know you can interact with it. Once you interact, a menu appears near the smart device enabling you to control it – for example, a light might allow you to turn it on/off, adjust brightness, colors, etc.
To me, this is far less about functionality than it is about possibility. We already have VR/AR, and we already have smart devices, but now there's a bridge connecting the two lands. Innovations like this may allow for more creativity and development on both sides: more VR/AR apps that offer more real world device control, and there could be more smart devices developed knowing that people can control them from their VR/AR glasses and not just their phone.
