I read this great article in Wired magazine about “The Cure for Disposable Plastic Crap”. It's lengthy but really well-written and entertaining regarding an important topic. The author outlines a 3-part plan to combat the proliferation of plastics:
- Replace some of our single-use plastics with truly compostable materials
- Replace another chunk with reusable containers, like metal or glass
- Tweak the economic incentives so plastic recycling actually works
Sounds simple, right? But if it just that simple we'd be doing it already and phrases like “microplastics in our bodies” wouldn't be so prevalent.
"Not every plastic bag should be perfectly stretchy, strong, and durable for the ages. Those specs were bonkers to begin with."
