Bangladesh to Ban Polythene Bags in Superstores from October 1st

A step towards Eco-friendly alternatives in supermarkets

In a major environmental move, Bangladesh will ban polythene and polypropylene bags across all superstores starting October 1, 2024. This initiative encourages using jute and cloth bags, promoting sustainable practices. Public awareness efforts and alternative bag supplies are key to the transition.

The use of polythene and polypropylene shopping bags will be banned across all superstores in Bangladesh starting October 1, Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said today.
