Heman Bekele, a 15-year-old from Virginia, has developed a soap infused with skin cancer medication, aiming to provide an affordable treatment for early-stage patients. Inspired by his experiences in Ethiopia and motivated by the high cost of traditional treatments, he won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge in 2023. Bekele is now collaborating with researchers at Johns Hopkins University to test the soap, which uses lipid-based nanoparticles to deliver the drug. His innovation was recognized by Time magazine, naming him "Kid of the Year." How cool!
