In times when many plans and programs meant to slow the impact of climate change are being postponed or extended to another x years it is good to hear that the coal exit plan is on track in Germany.
The 2027 target for reduced capacity has already been secured, so that there is no need in enforcing closures of coal power plants.
Coal capacity is being underused because of the growing share of renewable energy in the mix, reported Table Media. The share of coal in the electricity mix has dipped from 48 percent nine years ago to 19 percent in the first half of 2024, Table said.
