6K has developed a microwave-based plasma process called UniMelt to eliminate "forever chemicals" (PFAS) from various environments. The technology uses extreme heat (6,000 degrees) and reactive radicals to break down PFAS in just two seconds. It can be applied to clean water, firefighting foam, and semiconductor plants. UniMelt's process ensures no emissions or fluorine loss, addressing issues of cost and expandability that have challenged other plasma technologies.
It could also be used to clean up firefighting foam that’s a huge problem on military sites and airports nationwide, or to get rid of forever chemicals at semiconductor plants, where their use is a key part of the production process.
