The rising temperatures caused by climate change could impact coffee growers' farmlands by up to 50% by the year 2050. This has farmers ready to act to prevent their land from becoming unable to sustain the coffee crops. They are increasing biodiversity by planting native plants to enhance the health of their soil and improve resistance against the climate impacts.
“The future of coffee is in danger. We strongly believe that regenerative agriculture is how we protect it,” says De Ferron. “But it’s not a small thing for us, or for the coffee industry as a whole. And it definitely isn’t a small thing for the coffee farmers. It’s risky because even if you have a more diversified income (from agroforestry), you still have to get your income from coffee.”
