Connecticut's “ugliest” building, Hotel Marcel, has been transformed into one of the most sustainable hotels in the U.S. Powered entirely by renewable energy, it uses up to 80% less energy than typical hotels. Renovations included over 1,000 solar panels, electric systems, and air-source heat pumps. The hotel has a platinum LEED certification and aims to be America's first net-zero carbon hotel.
The staff themselves also work sustainably. Any food scraps produced are composted, single use plastic is barred and guest towels are washed only on request, instead of every night.
