LEGO plans to source 50% of its plastic from renewable and recycled materials by 2026. Currently, most bricks are petroleum-based, but the company is shifting to renewable resin, which is more eco-friendly but up to 70% more expensive. Using mass balance, a supply chain tracing method, LEGO aims to lead the toy industry’s shift to sustainable materials. In the first half of 2024, 30% of LEGO's resin purchases were certified mass balance, with 22% of raw materials from renewable and recycled sources, showing progress from 2023.
