Extreme Storms Highlight the Critical Need for Resilient Infrastructure Planning

As global warming continues, the planet's most extreme and heaviest storms will produce dramatically more rain as a hotter atmosphere can hold more water vapor. Hurricane Helene will not be a one-off event and communities further inland will face massive weather events they'll have to prepare for like never before. Climate and infrastructure resilience can't be just today's buzzwords, they have to be today's priority.

“We're never going to eliminate all the risk,” McDow says. “But we can do better as we rebuild from these storms, as communities invest going forward in new infrastructure to make sure that we're reducing risk for the people who live there.”
