The SS United States, a celebrated ocean liner, is set to become the world's largest artificial reef. Once a luxurious, record-breaking ship, it will be sunk near Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Florida, to join over 500 other artificial reefs. This project aims to support marine life and attract divers and fishers. The plan includes creating a museum dedicated to the ship. Environmental and legal processes are underway but anticipated to conclude smoothly.

The SS United States docked in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The largest and fastest ocean liner to ever be built in the United States. Built between 1950 and 1951 the stormy sky behind her reflects her uncertain future. She may be sunk to create an artificial reef or perhaps converted into retail space or some other venue. As of September 2024 the clock is ticking as to how much time she has left due to a court order.
